Monk & Trane
December 29, 2005
I know it is the time for year end lists but I prefer the one item recommendation over a long list as I think it might be easier to wrap your head around it. In 1957 Monk and Coltrane played together at Carnegie Hall and the recordings were discovered and remastered earlier this year. I am not one to review an item in detail so I will simply say that you should check this out if you are a fan of jazz, either one of these guys or great music in general.

I would just like to give a shout out to horseradish. I am having a nice opportunity to play with it this week and just wanted to thank the horseradish itself publicly. I also think it is worth noting that the ancient Greeks and Egyptians used it for treating rheumatism and lower back pain, as a cough syrup and also as an aphrodisiac. I like the idea of getting busy to R. Kelly and horseradish. Please note this is getting busy to and not with.
Possible Suggestion?
December 21, 2005
I recently picked up The Last Gentleman Adventurer : Coming of Age in the Arctic by Edward Beauclerk Maurice. It basically is his memoirs regarding his lifetime spent with the original Hudson Bay Company (Originally know as the The Gentleman Traders). He went to work with them at age 16 and spent several years in the Canadian Artic. I bought this on a whim and it is a great read so far especially if you are a fan of Jack London, Ernest Hemingway or Jim Harrison.
I will do a proper review when I have finished the book but I thought this might make a nice Holiday read or gift for anyone out there.

Ok I know I am harping on GW and his similarities to Cobra Commander but take a look at this link if you did not last year. I think this counters my suggestion that they are one and the same but maybe not. However you do not see Dick or Donald in here do you? Are they behind the mask?
Tippy, Toppy Secret

I could go on forever regarding the recent disclosures on the NSA wire taps both positively and negatively as I am no hawk nor dove. However, I like these two gems in particular out of the current headlines-
- President Bush had harsh words for those who talked about the top secret program to the media, saying their actions were illegal and improper, “As a result, our enemies have learned information they should not have,” he said. “The unauthorized disclosure of this effort damages our national security and puts our citizens at risk.”
How many terrorist cells in the country did not expect this move Cobra Commander? Does anyone honestly believe that we just started doing this after 9/11? Again, currently I am not critiquing this style of information gathering but does our Commander In Chief honestly believe that any terrorists did not see this coming and are talking about the next plot over their land line in Madison, WI?
- After the President defended the NSA program, Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis. said it was “breathtaking in how extreme they were” regarding the President’s comments. He also said it was “absurd” that Bush said he relied on his inherent power as president to authorize the wiretaps. “If that’s true, he doesn’t need the Patriot Act because he can just make it up as he goes along. I tell you, he’s President George Bush, not King George Bush. This is not the system of government we have and that we fought for.”
So the Democrats have just figured out that GW believes God appointed him with this position? What the hell took them so long when most of us knew this about 7 years ago. I tell you, leave it to the current Democrats to look even more clueless than GW. Maybe we should have exposed the “God-Complex” a few years ago when their was an election at stake and before he had a chance to start 2 wars, appoint 2 Justices, begin a full scale torture program and piss of 98.3% of the rest of the world. Just a thought.
Rise Darth, Darth, Darth….Cracker
December 17, 2005
Anyone looking for a last minute Christmas idea might want to look into this 18.5″ Darth Vader Nutcracker courtesy of the fine people at Steinbach in Germany. This is a limited run of only 7500 pieces and normally goes for $359.99 but at the Star Wars shop you can get it for only $299.99.
I can think of no better way to say I love you to that special person than giving them the gift of cracking nuts with the greatest villain ever (Sorry Pol Pot).

Holy Rocky IV! If you thought Dolph Lundgren was a big fella (6′5″ and 236lbs.) meet Mr. Nikolay Valuev. Mr. Valuev is the 17th ranked fighter in the WBA and is set to fight John Ruiz for the WBA Heavyweight Title on December 17th, 2005. Here are some important vitals on Nikolay for reference:
- Height–7′0″
- Weight–324 3/4 lbs. (As of last fight, 10/01/05)
- Reach–85″ (If you are not a boxing fan this is a huge advantage)
- Record–42-0 (31 ko’s)
- DOB–8/21/73
- Hometown–St. Petersburg, Russia
Comparable vitals for Mr. Ruiz:
- Height–6′2″
- Weight–241 lbs. (As of last fight, 04/30/05)
- Reach–78″
- Record–41-5-1 (28 ko’s)
- DOB–01/04/72
- Hometown–Methuen, MA (USA)
The amazing thing is that this is an enormous mis-match not due to size but style. Mr. Ruiz is what is called a “clutcher” meaning he looks to hang on in fights and essentially wear out opponents by utilizing body shots. Mr. Valuev is not a clutcher at all as he uses his height and reach to his advantage but he DOES not have a knock out punch. His fights generally are all across the board in regards to how long they last and how they end.
On the size front also take a look at the above photo and note that Mr. Valuev is fighting Mr. Clifford Etienne who goes 6′2″ and was fighting at 217lbs. in this photo. If you are a boxing fan or just a fan of a good semi-freak show this one might be worth tuning in for.
