Today I was visiting Rush Limbaugh’s website to see if he had any official statement regarding his recent incident at the Palm Beach International Airport. If you are unaware of this, Rush happened to get caught flying back from the Dominican Republic with a bottle of Viagra and the problem is that his name was not on the bottle and this is a) illegal and b) potentially violates his plea deal regarding his OxyContin arrest. Whoops. Figuring their must be some logical and left wing conspiracy to this I decided to stop by Rush Limbaugh and his Excellence in Broadcasting site.
And although the “truth” had yet to be posted I ran across these two gems. Enjoy them you left wing commies–
Rush 24/7 Adopt-A-Soldier Program
Welcome to the Rush 24/7 Adopt-A-Soldier Program, where service members can register to receive a Rush 24/7 membership from a pool donated by Dittoheads. Sponsors may adopt as many soldiers as they would like at a reduced price. Each adopted soldier will receive a complimentary, one year subscription to Rush 24/7 and the Limbaugh Letter. If you are an active member of the military who would like to register, or a family member or friend of an active member of the US Armed Forces who would like to register their name, please click the blue Armed Forces Registrant bar below and follow the provided instructions. If you would like to adopt a soldier, please click on the gold Adopt-A-Soldier Donor bar below and follow the provided instructions. Thank you for your interest in the Rush 24/7 Adopt-A-Soldier Program.
I know the above is a very generous program which must benefit a lot of real people out there including soldiers. You can also stop by the Rush Store and pick up some “Club Gitmo” wear including the following–
Nothing beats the truth does it? Except of course the OxyContin/Viagra highball I am working off right now.

Axl Rose was arrested outside the Berns Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden last night for allegedly biting a security guard in the leg and also of threatening a policeman. Rose, who had a concert in Stockholm on Monday night, was “too drunk to talk” and instead was placed in a cell to sober up (Surprise!) a police spokeswoman said. According to reports Rose was “tussling” with a woman in the hotel when a security intervened only to get gnawed on by Mr. Rose. If he does get charged and convicted with a misdemeanor it could be up to 6 months in prison but he would receive up to four years in prison for a felony charge (very doubtful).
I guess this means that we have to keep on waiting for Chinese Democracy. On the other hand if you have been anxiously waiting for this new release the last 13 years (The Spaghetti Incident?–1993) a few more years can only ripen it, right?
A Nice Sunday
June 26, 2006
For the low cost of $94.00 the family joined the Brookfield Zoo this past Sunday and I am thrilled to have done so. The benefits are endless (Parking, Food Discounts, Guest Passes, the whole fucking works) and regardless of having a daughter enamored with all animals I love the zoo as well. Also, did you know that the zoo is open 365 days a year? Christmas 2006 at the zoo will be fantastic.
We got there around noon on an overcast day so it was pretty sparsely populated which was real nice. We spent about 5 hours there so instead of doing all the details I will pass along a few highlights. First off we went right to the bears row and got a good half hour show from a lazy polar bear who was content to sleep and splash around in his water and then on to see the rest of the bears who were mainly slumbering (I envy the bastards). It was lunch time for the Alaskan Brown Bear and they have a nice glass window where he is fed so my daughter was able to get up real close and pretend kiss the bear. Very cute. The damn thing can run 35+ miles per hour which is pretty amazing/terrifying.
As we were walking to Tropic World we first had to stop off and ride the Brookfield Zoo Carousel as my daughter is really, really into the “roundy, roundy” as she calls it . She rode the tiger and neither one of us could have been more thrilled. We went into Tropic World and got a nice viewing of all the monkeys including the newest member of the gorilla’s, Bakari (Binti Jua’s son born this past May). Mom and son where playing and it was nice to see. By the way, anyone who thinks evolution is full of crap should spend a few hours viewing gorilla’s interacting with each other and their young ones and maybe then they can take their head out of their ass.
Next we spent some time walking by the Pachyderm House and got some good looks at a rhinoceros, elephants and a hippopotamus sleeping in the mud. On our way to the Fragile Kingdom we walked by an enormous ostrich who was just chillin and sat in front of us preening for a good 10-15 minutes. We slyly walked by the carousel hoping to avoid another turn on the “roundy, roundy” as I knew I already would have to ride it one more time on the way out and two times seems plenty to me.
After sneaking through the main area we ended up at the Fragile Kingdom. This part contains a bunch of exhibits including all the big cats so I was pretty damn excited. However, the lions were all asleep so that was kind of a downer but their is always next time. We did luck out though as the new amur tiger, Strannik was out and very active. Not only enormous beyond comprehension at 3 years old he is about as beautiful as any animal I have ever seen. You can read more about him on the zoo website but for the sake of making your life easier–
- As for the species name, Amur, it comes from the Amur River which runs through a region in eastern Asia where the tigers can be found. An endangered species, it is estimated that there are only between 200-400 individuals living in their range of China, Russia, Siberia, and Manchuria.
- Strannik’s presence requires no roaring to impress. Actually, it is pretty rare to hear tigers roar. They do not need to vocalize as much as lions do. Unlike lions, tigers usually live alone, except during the mating season or when a mother is rearing a cub. These cats communicate in quieter ways, like marking trees with urine and scratches. This helps to alert other tigers that they are (or were) in the area.
Seeing Strannik alone, and maybe the polar bear, were worth the membership fee to me. The rest of the day went great as we enjoyed the zoo quality food (I honestly love boiled hot dogs and stale popcorn) and we were able to pick up a few souvenirs including a stuffed tiger and gorilla (official names still pending). To anyone in the Chicago area I highly suggest spending a day or two at the zoo this summer as it is a truly perfect day. Maybe even join.
And yes, I did ride the “roundy, roundy” again and this time on an accommodating panda and I loved every second of it.
Weekend Fight
June 23, 2006
As I mentioned previously you should try and catch this Saturday’s HBO Boxing After Dark (10:30pm EST) as it will feature Calvin Brock vs. Timur Ibragimov and Joel Julio vs. Carlos Quintana from Caesars Palace’s in Las Vegas.
HBO’s official plug–
In a heavyweight main event showdown, undefeated Calvin Brock (28-0, 22 KOs) takes on fellow undefeated heavyweight Timur Ibragimov (21-0-1, 13 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round battle. The night’s opening bout features another pair of undefeated fighters in an eagerly awaited encounter, as welterweight Joel Julio (27-0, 24 KOs) takes on highly ranked challenger Carlos Quintana (22-0, 18 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round contest.
I know that Brock is a promising big puncher with a pretty good defense but that is all I really know about that fight. Julio is supposedly the next big thing in welterweights and might be in line for a title shot in the next 12 months. Not a bad card at all as I expect the Julio vs. Quintana fight to be a good one. All these guys should be around for awhile so it will be nice to see them together before they are fighting on PPV only.
A Few Definitions
June 23, 2006
Recent events in my life have forced me to clarify a few words/terms and I thought I would pass them on. Enjoy and have a nice weekend–
- CT (Computed Tomography) Scan–A special radiographic technique that uses a computer to assimilate multiple X-ray images into a 2 dimentional cross-sectional image. This can reveal many soft tissue structures not shown by conventional radiography. Scans may also be dynamic in which a movement of a dye (often called contrast) is tracked. Cuts may be 5 or 10 mm apart or, in some instances even further apart. A special dye material may be injected into the patients vein prior to the scan to help differentiate abnormal tissue and vasculature. The machine rotates 180 degrees around the patients body, sending out a pencil-thin X-ray beam at 160 different points. Crystals positioned at the opposite points of the beam pick up and record the absorption rates of the varying thicknesses of tissue and bone. This data is then relayed to a computer that turns the information into a picture on a screen. Using the same dosage of radiation as that of the conventional X-ray machine, an entire slice of the body is made visible with about 100 times more clarity.
The scanner was invented in 1972 by the British electronics engineer Godfrey N. Hounsfield and was in general use by 1979. - EKG (Electrocardiogram)–A recording of the electrical activity of the heart on a moving strip of paper. The electrocardiogram detects and records the electrical potential of the heart during contraction.
- Ultrasound–This is a type of imaging technique which uses high-frequency sound waves.
This is highly operator-dependent and is thought to be useful in diagnosis but not particularly accurate in the assessment of tumor response. For the latter, CT or MR imaging are more accurate. - Stress Test–Any cardiac challenge, physical, pharmacological, or mental delivered under monitored conditions. Most commonly this is exercise, the most common monitor being electrocardiography although any other graphic technique, including cardiac catheterization, may be applicable.
- Blood Clot–The conversion of blood from a liquid form to solid through the process of coagulation. A thrombus is a clot which forms inside of a blood vessel. If that clot moves inside the vessel it is referred to as an embolus (embolism). The presence of atherosclerotic plaque lining blood vessel walls is a significant stimulus for clot formation.
- MS (Multiple Sclerosis)–It is a disease which results in destruction of nerve sheaths resulting in scarring (fibrosis). Commonly presents with its first attack between the ages of 20 and 40. Common symptoms include double vision, extremity weakness, numbness, bladder dysfunction and movement or coordination problems.
- Anxiety Attack–An acute episode which involves the unpleasant emotional state consisting of psychophysiological responses to anticipation of unreal or imagined danger, ostensibly resulting from unrecognized intrapsychic conflict. Physiological concomitants include increased heart rate, altered respiration rate, sweating, trembling, weakness and fatigue, psychological concomitants include feelings of impending danger, powerlessness, apprehension and tension.

What is so funny?
June 21, 2006
I could post about 20 photos from my recent weekend with the fella’s but due to possible repercussions I have opted for a few “classier” ones. On this one you have to wonder what DH was laughing at on the golf course? Is it a photo of himself? Is it pornographic by nature? Does it involve livestock?
However I cannot divulge the true subject of this photo but it will always be a precious and lasting memory to me.
And the winner is…

This photo is from the 1st hour of what ended up being a 9 1/2 hour game of of Axis & Allies on my recent weekend trip with the fellas. In the end the Axis (I was Japan, Germany was handled by the Kraut in the red shirt) was victorious and we are still working on the rest of our world domination plan. Good times for all as long as you are rooting for evil.

My cohort in most crimes DH sent this to me as he thought I would enjoy this photo from 1978 and he was not wrong. Shown top row, from left, are: Steve Wood, Bob Wallace and Jim Lane; second row, Bob O’Rear, Bob Greenberg, March McDonald and Gordon Letwin; and front row, Bill Gates, Andrea Lewis, Marla Wood and Paul Allen.
This has to be the worst looking bunch of evil-doers since Joseph Goebbels and the SS met on November 8th, 1938 to get ready for Kristallnacht.
Please note that this is meant to humorous as cleary JG and the SS were a different brand of evil but on the looks scale very comparable to the folks at MS.
