High As A Kite

Two weeks of being sick sucks.  Two weeks of everyone in the house being sick really sucks.  Getting high as a fucking kite  while taking Mucinex is not so bad.

Prescription Blues

November 21, 2007

In a follow up to yesterday’s post I went to my lovely local Walgreens and had the honor of buying my daughters’ prescription for $50.  This was with insurance and it totals 3 TEASPOONS.  3 FUCKING TEASPOONS.   I am not sure but I think I can get 3 TEASPOONS of Crack for less than that.   She is sure lucky that I love her enough to plunk down the cash for this.  Please note sarcasm.

Dead Horses

This week while on the road I listened to a lot of sport’s talk radio and I have a list of topics that I am so fucking sick of -

  • Barry Bonds – He lied to the grand jury.  He will probably plea out of it but do not think that changes the record.  Sure it changes the HOF for good but we knew that already pretty much.  Funny that the all time hits and home run leaders will not be in the HOF.  Enough already but it is nice that Greg Anderson got out to stretch his legs and not his asshole.
  • A-Rod & Boras.  He went back to the Yankees and if you think anyone in this camp is unhappy about the 270MM contract he is getting you are crazy.  This was simply a nice PR backup.
  • NFL MVP discussions.  It is a little early no matter what but right now it is no question.  Tom Brady is the beginning and end.
  • The Knicks. Yeah, they are a fucking joke in every way.  Move on.

Just need to close these for myself.

Sweet China

November 17, 2007

One aspect of my job that significantly changed for the better is staying in China and not the slicked-back-modern-faux-China that is Hong Kong.  I enjoy everything about it but mainly the fact that I can settle into it 24 hours a day for 7 straight days makes it a completely different experience from my previous 8-10 trips here over that last several years.  A couple noteworthy points -

  • The people.  Getting their reaction to me and seeing things a little more clearly from their persepctive has been a treat and something I savor every day. Whether it is in following their discussions to watching people go about their daily life it is amazing in every way.  It is also quite rewarding having a more rural experience some days as well.
  • The food.  I used to come here and love going for the traditional big lunches and dinners but now I could care less about that as it is in the little places that the really goodies are waiting for you.  Maybe it is in a seasonal lotus dish or maybe something along the lines of a local pig stomach (That was quite good) but no matter what it is it is fantastic in every way.  God bless the Chinese breakfast.
  • The tea.  I am not a big tea drinker at home but here it is a steady part of my diet as I have not had a coke product in 4 days (must be a record for me).  The different tastes are a major part of this but the actual materials and ceremony involved in each one is a blast.  I need to pick up a Kung-Fu tea set before I leave one of these times.
  • Chairman Mao.  So much great Mao artwork here it could drive me nuts.  I wish I could stuff 10 prints in my suitcase and decorate my home with them but something makes me think that the weefe might question this decorations style.

Next time I will add some pictures as well.

When exactly did security become paramount?  Has it always been there and become more encompassing as I got married or had kids?  Or did it just pop up when I had kids?  Was it a secret gene that my perpetually half-full father buried deep in me waiting to seep out and contaminate me upon his death?  Does it dissipate a little with age or experience?  Or do you just adjust to it and finally realize that the security was never there in the first place and you had been imagining it all along?

You have to admit that T-Shirt Hell has some balls in general with their designs.  Most of the time I cannot get away with them but this one I think will work especially for a crazy left wing liberal like me.

Know When To Walk Away

November 13, 2007

It is time for Sugar Shane Mosley to retire from the game.  I love the guy and what he has done in his career but he has nothing left to prove or do.  The big fights vs. him are not attractive and neither is moving up in weightclass. He should get out now and put his full efforts behind Golden Boy Promotions and then maybe some training.  Congrats on a great, HOF career Sugar.

I like outdoor work more than most.  I shun technology as much as possible by ignoring snowblowers, leaf-blowers, etc. but 10 mountains of leaves later leaves me a bit tired.  A little annoyed as my lawns are covered again 3 hours later.

Great song with a pretty slick video.  The whole album is pretty dam good as well and I would highly suggest picking it up if you like some bands like Travis or The Shins for reference point.
