Denzel Hayes Washington Jr

December 29, 2007

This week I caught American Gangster and as I was leaving the theater and thinking about how much I fucking loved this movie I started to ponder Denzel Washington.  For some reason he has never been on the top of my list when it comes to American actors but he is getting there really quick over the last 5 years.  I am just going to start with 1999 and move to the present with the below titles and a few quick comments

  1.  The Hurricane, 1999 – I dug this and bought the performance 100%.
  2. Remember The Titans, 2000 – Not my thing but solid.
  3. Training Day, 2001 – A lot of people felt this was overhyped but not me.  Love it.
  4. John Q , 2002 – Did not see.
  5. Antwone Fisher, 2002 – Totally solid.
  6. Out of Time, 2003 – Did not see.
  7. Man on Fire, 2004 – One of m all time faves.  Brilliant in every way.
  8. Manchurian Candidate, 2004 – Did not see.  No remakes for me if possible.
  9. Inside Man, 2006 – Fantastic performance in a very good movie.
  10. Deja Vu, 2006 – Man on Fire light but still good.
  11. American Gangster, 2007 – Loved it.
  12. The Great Debaters, 2007 – Have not seen yet.

We can also add a few others as well including Glory, Mo’ Better Blues, Philadelphia and his brilliant turn as Malcolm X in 1992.  I am not declaring anything here but just wanted to point this out.  And if you can check out Man on Fire.

World Of What?

December 24, 2007

I have played video games as long as I can remember.  I love playing all types of video games in general but I do admit that the recent technological changes to games have annoyed the piss out of me.  I do not care for graphics.  I do not care about online play.  I do not care about level of difficultly or if something is meant for “casual” or “hardcore” gamers.  I simply want a good game put together around a solid storyline.  This might be why I have fallen out of love with Sony since the PS2’s decline and never fell for the X-Box.  I have stuck with handheld games and more recently have drifted straight back into the loving arms of my Wii.  On that note I kinda enjoy Battalion Wars. Now that I have stepped up to the MacBook Pro and have been traveling again seriously (and have alot on deck) I thought I could dip my feet into computer gaming.  I generally despise this for far to many reason to list here but in general – I LIKE TO PLAY ALONE.  So what did I pick up at my local Apple store – World of Warcraft.  I know what you can say next but if you are going to try something might as well do it right.  So far after 2 days it seems pretty good and it seems to have a fairly well written story.  I will try to add to this and do an actual review in the weeks to come.

Say hello to my little friend.  Today was a joyous day as I was able to take the step from first time Mac owner to a multiple Mac owner.  It was also damn joyous to just plug it into my Mac Book and see it auto-transfer everything.  Good luck with your Dell piece-o-crap on that function.  And I am not talking about just the apple software side of things.  I am talking about everything.  I know MS/Windows folks just think Apple is full of shit and they can have their foolish, ill-educated opinions as long as they like.  Kinda like Republicans.

Scandal

December 14, 2007

I could not care one bit about the steroid scandal in MLB.  I do not care who did what and when.  Lets all act like fucking grown ups and stop pretending were surprised that some folks took a possible shortcut to glory.  Is our amazement due to the fact that it is baseball, why?  Baseball does not really have the cleanest reputation in major league sports history now does it?  How many cheat and lie to try to make a buck or get ahead in business every day?Side Note, I can name 2 specific people so let me know if you are at a loss. And now I have to listen to a lying used car salesman act all shitty about this (See Bud Selig).  Gimme a fucking break.  Every owner not only had an idea but knew what was going on after and even before the strike. They were fine with it as it made them money and that is what professional sports are supposed to do. Can we please get over all this bull shit and just move on or do you need further proof that Glenallen Hill was using performance enhancing drugs?

I am a reading junky.  I like to read multiple newspapers every day.  I like reading as many magazines as I can.  I can also spend a fortune at bookstores and sometimes read as many as 3-4 books a week.   To me a good book is about 10x greater than a good song/album and about 25x greater than a great movies (I will stay away from my movies are not art tangent for now).  I also like having something in my hands but the new Amazon Kindle really intrigues me.  The idea to download papers and magazines at all times or not having to invest too much in new books (that I buy on flyers most of the time) sounds really good.  It is expensive as crap but take a look at the official specs courtesy of the seller, Amazon -

Shirt Fetish

December 13, 2007

I have a shirt fetish.  I like well designed shirts.  They can be short or long sleeve.  They can have text or images only.  I just like shirts and I can never have enough.  I recently stumbled upon DBH and love this site and the designs in full. Take a look but if I see you in one of these designs I will cut you.
