Directors Guild of America Winners – Oscar OVERLOAD

Directors Guild of America - Trying to be a little presidential if you ask me.

Ok so the DGA (Directors Guild of America) had their award ceremony recently and the two main categories as it relates to our little poll are Feature Film Director and Documentary Director of the year.  If you are unaware of the 6th Annual Marlovits Academy Award Poll….I’m shocked, but drop me a line and I will get you in as I know a guy.

Feature Film Director Nominees –

  • Michael Hazanavicius – The Artist
  • Woody Allen – Midnight In Paris
  • David Fincher – The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
  • Alexander Payne – The Descendants
  • Martin Scorsese – Hugo

And the 2011 winner for Feature Film Director is….Michael Hazanavicius – The Artist.

Documentary Film Director Nominees –

  • James Marsh – Project Nim
  • Steve James – The Interrupters
  • Richard Press – Billy Cunningham New York
  • Martin Scorsese – George Harrison: Living In The Material World
  • Joe Berlinger & Bruce Sinofsky – Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory

And the 2011 winner for Documentary Film Director is….James Marsh – Project Nim.

Now this might not seem to exciting it is worth noting that Mr. Hazanavicius and The Artist are both nominated in multiple categories.  Also last year Tom Hopper won this same award (DGA) for The King’s Speech and then went on to win the Oscar.

On the documentary side Project Nim is not nominated but one of the above (Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory) is so that be telling as well…or maybe not.

Who knows but with knowledge comes confusion and that is all I am really aiming for.  Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.
